What it is, who qualifies, how to apply, and what comes after the two years

Q: What exactly is the Stamp 1G?
The Stamp 1G, formally the Third Level Graduate Scheme, is an Irish post-study work permission for non-EEA graduates. It lets you live and work in Ireland for up to 24 months after finishing your degree — no employment permit required, no employer ties.
Q: Who qualifies?
You must be a non-EEA national with a degree at NFQ Level 8 (honours bachelor), Level 9 (master's), or Level 10 (PhD) from a recognised Irish institution. You must have held a valid Stamp 2 student permission and apply within 12 months of graduation. EU/EEA citizens don't need this — and Level 7 degree holders are not eligible.
Q: What can I do on a Stamp 1G?
Work for any employer in any sector. Change jobs freely. No permit required. You cannot be self-employed or freelance under this permission.
Q: How long does it last?
12 months initially, renewed once for 12 more = 24 months maximum. No further extension exists.
Q: How do I apply?
Register at inisonline.jahs.ie
Book in-person appointment (Burgh Quay in Dublin, or local GNIB outside Dublin)
Bring: passport, Stamp 2 IRP card, degree certificate, academic transcript, 3 months bank statements, proof of address
Pay €300 at your appointment
Q: What happens after 24 months?
You transition to another permission. The most common route is the Critical Skills Employment Permit for high-demand roles, or the General Employment Permit. Planning this transition early — ideally in year one — is strongly recommended.
